ABOUT
Emily is an experienced dance teacher, movement director and community dance practitioner specialising in dance for older adults.
Emily trained in classical ballet and contemporary dance at Elmhurst Ballet School and London Contemporary Dance School. She joined Matthew Bourne's company Adventures in Motion Pictures in 1994 which later went on to become the world famous New Adventures. During her time with the company she performed in many of Bourne's well known productions, and most notably created the role of The Girlfriend in his version of Swan Lake.
Since leaving the company Emily has worked in theatre and opera as a movement director and revival choreographer, and continues to do so, most recently at the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne. She also still performs as an actor and dancer in opera when possible!
For seven years Emily was an Associate Lecturer in contemporary dance at the University of Chichester on the Musical Theatre Performance course before discovering a love of teaching dance to older adults. She has become involved in the community and outreach work of New Adventures, leading on the their Next Adventures workshops for over 55's at Farnham Maltings, and last year received a Spring Forward Bursary from the company to develop her skills as a specialist in this area. In 2021 she received training and mentoring in delivering dance for those with living with dementia, and went on to set up Dance on Call, taking dance into her local care settings. Last year she led on a New Adventures/Magic Me project working with the residents of St Fillans Care Home which culminated in a dance film, Moving in Time about their lives. Her passion is improving the physical and mental wellbeing of older people through joyful movement and dance.
